The Emergency Support
for the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake
On 1 January 2024, a great earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. We offer our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and extend our sincere sympathies to those affected.
PARCIC has, since 6 January, deployed staff to the affected area to assess the damage and people’s needs, while distributing food and non-food essential items.
Two weeks after the disaster, an estimated 55,550 households in the affected areas still face water shortages, with no clear timeline for recovery. Efforts continue to transport individuals, vulnerable people in particular, from primary evacuation centers like schools and community halls to semi-secondary evacuation facilities, and further relocate to secondary evacuation places in the southern part of, or even outside the prefecture. However, over 19,000 people still endure life in evacuation within the disaster-stricken region.
Besides designated evacuation centers, many individual families have taken refuge somewhere or remain at damaged home, raising concerns about the prolonged impact on their physical and mental health. PARCIC undertakes the relief activities in response to the changing conditions and needs on the ground.
We kindly ask for your continued joining in our activities. To facilitate this emergency aid, we have launched a fundraising campaign. Your generous contribution would greatly be appreciated. Thank you for your encouragement and support.
