PARCIC assists those affected by disaster, armed conflict or other hardships in restoring decent life in dignity, and aims at a world where people interact mutually in equal relationships.
PARCIC is an officially-certified Non-Profit Organization, and has been extending Interpeople’s Cooperation activities in 10 countries including Japan in the region of Asia since its founding 2008.
Mission / Vision
Mission
To build humane and equitable relationships among people who care and support each other.
The world has seen the economic disparity widening and the political divide leading to violence. The conflicts between nation-states and among ethnic groups have been fierce, and the destruction of the natural environment has brought frequent natural disasters, threatening people’s lives in various parts of Asia including Japan.
There is no single solution for this. But we believe that our approach should transcend national confrontations and ethnic conflicts, and encourage people in various communities across borders to help each other directly and support mutually as fellow global citizens. In other words, PARCIC promotes Inter-people’s cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges and fair trade on an equitable basis.
Vision
A World PARCIC aiming for
A world where local people of different backgrounds in diverse communities can each decide, as the subject of their life, on their own way of living and build a decent livelihood.
Mutually-supportive relationship as advocated in the ‘Mission’ will enable people from different backgrounds having diverse experiences to exchange respective viewpoints and various practices and encourage each other.
Local residents in each area will then be prompted to reflect on their own experiences and realize new possibilities.
They, and we, thus embark on the betterment of livelihood possibly through collaborative activities, make a decision on the way of living, transform the society, and will be able to take action to restore the damaged environment. PARCIC aims at a world where people in each area can build and maintain their own self-reliant livelihood in this manner.
Value
PARCIC works on its activities based on its mission and vision, with its value which was found from practical experiences in the past.
-
We must learn well about the project areas and the communities.
PARCIC begins its activities by study and research to know and learn the area. We, in partnership with local people, explore approaches based on local realities, intensively looking into conditions and circumstances.
-
Addresses issues of concrete and practical challenges of life.
PARCIC works on activities, even in difficult circumstances such as conflict areas, to explore long-term solutions enabling people to restore and run their self-reliant livelihood.
-
Valuing direct exchanges,communication and trade
PARCIC delivers local products from project sites to the fair trade market which is based on people-to-people communication and trust. This exchange involves not only commodities, but each party becomes aware of something missing on its part to be supplemented by the other. It should thus lead to deepening mutual understanding through various ways of communication beyond commodity transactions.
Greetings
We at PARCIC support people in difficulty in different parts of the world to regain their life in dignity. PARCIC is a non-profit organization aimed to create equal relationships between citizens beyond borders through Interpeoples’ cooperation.
The term ‘Interpeoples’ cooperation’ may sound unfamiliar to you. We attempt to transcend traditional inter’national’ cooperation based largely on state-to-state relations. We wish to overcome state barriers and place ourselves as a group of individual human beings amongst the people living in different communities in the world, particularly those deprived of their peaceful life due to violent conflicts, natural disasters or social marginalization. Indeed, those who need caring relationships are now found not only in the distant overseas but also in our own communities in Japan.
In line with ‘Interpeoples’ cooperation’, PARCIC has also been involved in fair trade since its inception in 2008. Our major focal area is Timor Leste where we, at PARCIC’s predecessor organization PARC, were involved in emergency relief after independence and subsequent support to coffee farmers in the mountains. We believed that the fair-trade would create a long-term market mechanism to support the production activities of local farmers in their quest for economic self-reliance. When the first batch of coffee beans was exported from a harbour of Timor Leste for the first time since independence, the producers and all others involved choked up seeing the words “Timor Leste” printed on the jute bags. We are not only trading commodities in the market, but we are also receiving the dignity and pride of the producers and delivering them to the consumers. It is we at PARCIC that is encouraged and supported by such linking.
In the current world of seemingly never-ending conflicts and disasters, we find hope in people-to-people links. We look forward to your joining our “Interpeoples’ Cooperation”.
